Jake Barker

Jake came over to inspect our older Ubiquity home networking system because we experienced random end-point outages, less than optimal performance and needed to upgrade our security and firewall capability. He very quickly diagnosed some of the issues with the old system and proposed upgrades (replacing the old firewall with a new UDM and replacing old Ubiquity end-points ). We hired him on the spot because we felt that he understood the issues quicker than other specialists who inspect the system, and also was more pragmatic with the solution that he offered. The resulting system is almost 10 times faster in download speed (apparently related to wrong wiring). Download speed is still quite low -- but apparently this is a Comcast issue. He also came up with amazing fix for an annoying issue with our home theater system - he set us up to use our phones as the remote! He also diagnosed an issue with one of the outdoors speakers in Sonos system. We would highly recommend Jake.

Jake resonded in a very timely manner to our email. He quickly diagnosed the problem from. our communications and came prepared to solve the problem. Our ubiquity server/wifi went down and he not only fixed the problem (on a Sunday) but also made sure all of our wireless access points were functioning properly, along with all connected devices (smart tvs, Sonos, ring system etc). He had some ideas to improve the system and reviewed with us. He and his associate, Wilson, were incredibly efficient, careful in the way they treated our house and thoroughly cleaned up after themselves. It is how you wish every person that provides a service acted. Can't say enough good things.

Jake and his team were great. I asked him to come by and advise on how to setup our 2 story house for wired ethernet to support solid wifi in every room, wifi outside in the yard, and security cameras with local storage. I had setup my previous house by myself using a Unifi system (recommendation I found by wirecutter), so I knew exactly how much work this could be (and how many weekends it would occupy me). This time around I wanted to get help from someone who knew what they were doing and could do it much faster :). Jake was the right choice! He came by, quickly advised on a system (also recommended unifi), was very cool about re-using some of my old equipment, and honest about what would work well (and not) about some of my choices. He never pressured me and his quote was reasonable. Last: Jake was really on top of equipment availability which -- given current supply chain situation -- is not trivial for a lot of electronics. On the day of the job, he and his coworker showed up and dove right in. They were unintimidated by crawlspaces or attics, and found a way to get wiring to every place I wanted it with a super clean finish (and I'm really picky about the way that contractors finish jobs). We ended up with one minor drywall patch in order to make one of the runs down from the attic but -- given that we ran almost 1000ft of cat6 into 8 different rooms -- I was very impressed. I've been using the system for about 2 months now and am looking to have Jake and his team back to add more cameras.
